If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the pace and pressure of scaling your agency, you're not alone.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking at the "No-Burnout Blueprint for Scaling Your Agency" webinar hosted by Unbounce alongside Brianna Doe, where I shared some of the strategies that have helped me navigate the challenges of growth at Backroom.

Growth as therapy: finding your agency’s sweet spot
One of the most transformative realizations in building my agency, Backroom, was discovering the sweet spot between what we're good at and what we love doing. Initially, we offered a wide range of services, driven by the conventional notion that growth equals capabilities and human capital expansion. But real growth is about more than just adding new services—it's about deepening the value you provide.
We decided to hone in on brand strategy, which not only is Backroom's founding capability but also the type of work we can do in our sleep. This focus has not only improved our output but has genuinely made our work more enjoyable. By staying true to what we do really well, we've been able to create more impactful work and build stronger (longer-lasting) relationships with our clients.
Leveraging technology to enhance efficiency
During the session, we also talked about the role of technology in scaling an agency. I think we're in an app overload as a society and try to be selective about the tools we integrate into our operations. Each tool must have a clear purpose, and isn't something we bring on because it's trendy or fun.
Building partnerships based on shared values
Another crucial aspect of sustainable growth is choosing the right partners. The relationships you form can either propel you forward or hold you back. In our discussion, I emphasized the importance of partnering with businesses that share similar values and visions. This alignment ensures that when we collaborate, we're all moving toward the same goal, which is crucial for maintaining quality and integrity in our work.
Cultivating a culture that prioritizes people
Perhaps one of the most overlooked elements of scaling an agency is the internal culture. At Backroom, we believe that a happy team is the backbone of a successful agency. This means creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and excited to come to work. We prioritize our team's well-being over everything because, at the end of the day, they are the ones driving our agency's success.
I hope these insights inspire you to look at your own agency’s growth strategies in a way that feels right to you. Remember, it's not just about growing bigger, it's about building something that serves you.
